CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITY
Sumter Soil & Water Conservation District is dedicated to natural resource conservation in SUMTER, – South Carolina. The Sumter SWCD provides educational, technical, and financial assistance to producers and community members through a variety of practices.
Fellowship recipients will perform semi-annual and annual inspections of Conservation District easements. The fellowship program supports NRCS and the Sumter Soil & Water Conservation District with field work and gains experience in managing and maintaining environmental practices throughout Sumter County. Recipients will complete field reports and should have good working knowledge of word processor. Recipients will attend monthly board meetings and provide occasional reports at the meetings.
Fellowship applicants will be pursuing a degree in environmental sciences or a natural resource related program. Applicants should be in their second or third year of studies. Applicants should be enrolled at least ¾ time for the year the fellowship is awarded. Applicants will be required to perform field work in a variety of elements. Applicants may be required to lift equipment or clear debris up to 50 pounds.
Fellowship recipients will receive valuable training and experience related to their career field. Recipients will make professional contacts and become familiar with the daily operations of the NRCS and Conservation Districts. Recipients will receive a $2,000.00 educational reward and a certificate of completion at the end of fellowship. Some travel reimbursement will be provided.
